Texas Rangers All-Star third baseman Josh Jung faces an extended absence of eight to ten weeks after undergoing surgery for his fractured right wrist, according to reports. The Dallas Morning News revealed that the surgical procedure was more complex than initially assessed through X-rays.
Jung, aged 26, sustained the injury during Monday’s victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, where a pitch struck him. Consequently, he was promptly assigned to the 10-day injured list the following day.
Despite missing 40 games last season due to a fractured thumb, Jung managed to secure an All-Star nomination and clinch the fourth spot in the American League Rookie of the Year voting for 2023. In his 122 game appearances, he exhibited notable performance statistics with a .266 batting average, .315 on-base percentage, .467 slugging percentage, 23 home runs, 70 RBIs, and 75 runs.
Moreover, Jung’s impactful contributions extended into the postseason, notably during the Rangers’ triumphant journey to their first-ever World Series championship. His postseason performance was highlighted by a .308 batting average, three home runs, eight RBIs, and 13 runs across 17 games.
Entering his second season, Jung displayed an impressive start to the campaign, boasting a .412 batting average and a stellar 1.415 OPS until his unfortunate injury. With two home runs and six RBIs to his name, the team will undoubtedly feel his absence as they navigate through the remainder of the season.
The Texas Rangers announced the following roster moves today prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Rays at Tropicana Field: – 3B Josh Jung was placed on the 10-day Injured List (right wrist fracture). – INF Justin Foscue (#56) was recalled from Round Rock (AAA).
