Following NC State’s stunning upset of Stanford in the Sweet 16, head coach Wes Moore walked into the postgame press conference sporting slick-backed hair and quipped, “Just call me Elvis.”
And as he wrapped up media availability the next day, Moore playfully hinted, “Hopefully Elvis will make another appearance tomorrow.”
The good news for NC State fans? Elvis hasn’t left the building.
Despite trailing 4-0 early on, the Wolfpack engaged in a back-and-forth battle with Texas throughout the first quarter. However, they seized control with a decisive 6-0 run towards the end, punctuated fittingly by a 3-point shot from Aziaha James. From there, NC State never relinquished their lead, securing a 76-66 victory.
Expanding their advantage to 17 points in the second quarter, NC State maintained a comfortable margin for the remainder of the game. This victory marks the Wolfpack’s second journey to the Final Four in program history, with their last appearance dating back to 1998. Notably, it’s also Coach Moore’s first trip to the national semifinals at the Division I level, having previously reached this stage in 1998 while leading Division II Francis Marion.
