Coach Bob Knight, the quintessential basketball coach who won three NCAA championships while head coach at Indiana University, has died at 83 according to his family.
The statement reads in part, βIt is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.β

Knight was the head coach at IU for close to three decades. Beginning the 1971-72 season in Bloomington, Knight lead the Hoosiers to five NCAA Final Four appearances and three NCAA Championship titles; happening in 1976, 1981, and 1987.
Knight ultimately culminated a 902-371 43-year career record, including coaching at at Army (1966-71), Indiana (1972-2000) and Texas Tech (2022-08). When Knight retired in 2008, his 902 wins were ranked No. 1 all time.
Knight was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991, the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and the IU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
