USA Today: Texas ranked as “Best College For Sports Fans”

Although Texas’ marquee athletic programs haven’t been up to par with national standards, the burnt orange faithful behind them have continued to set an example for college fanbases across the country.

According to a USA Today poll, Texas is currently ranked as the “Best College for Sports Fans,” beating out blue-blood schools like Ohio State, Alabama, and Duke.

It’s no surprise that Texas continues to be a staple in this conversation. It’s the second-highest grossing college athletics program in the country, raking in over $187 million in revenue in the past year second only to Texas A&M.

Despite underwhelming performances on the field and hardwood, the Longhorns have enjoyed success in a multitude of sports including volleyball, swimming, and track & field. Unconventional venues such as Gregory Gym also provide for unique experiences for students and fans alike, as a consistently strong volleyball side never fails to send fans home happy.

Fans also continue to support the Longhorns in large numbers both in and out of arenas. Over $39 million was raised for athletics at UT in 2016, and improvements to facilities like Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and plans for a new basketball arena will keep fans coming.

The poll is open until Monday, Mar. 5 at 11 a.m. Voting can be done on the following website:
