Super Bowl LIII Preview

Super Bowl LIII Preview

By The Horn Contributor Max Playle

Another NFL season has come and gone, and yet another Patriots Super Bowl.  The dynamic duo of Belichick and Brady team up for their ninth Super Bowl to take on the young football guru Sean McVay and his team of all-stars in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Feb 3.

Despite the rocky start to the season for the Patriots, they finished strong toppling a nearly perfect Chiefs team to win the AFC Championship in overtime. Belichick’s defense played stout as they applied liberal pressure in man-to-man coverage, taking away key offensive weapons like Tyreek Hill from Kansas City for much of the game.

The defensive scheme the Patriots used at Arrowhead will simply not work against the Rams in Atlanta. McVay’s explosive offense was the second highest scoring offense in the NFL this year.  The Pat’s will have to limit former teammate Brandin Cooks involvement down field while also defending outside zone runs by the Ram’s tandem team of Gurley and Anderson.

The Rams defense has a clearer objective: Keep pressure on Brady. Lead by Aaron Donald, the Rams front seven will have to keep constant pressure in the pass rush to limit Brady’s time in the pocket.

You can hear the call right here on The Horn 104.9FM/101.9-FM/AM-1260 Sunday with kick off.
