Longhorns Lose In OT To Texas Tech 73-71

With just under two minutes remaining holding a five-point lead, the Longhorns were in position to complete a season sweep of No. 10 Texas Tech and get right in the thick of the Big 12 race. Then it all fell apart.

The Red Raiders (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) erased the deficit to force overtime, and senior guard Keenan Evans capped off a 38-point night with a buzzer-beater in the extra period to bury Texas.

Junior guard Kerwin Roach led Texas with 20 points and freshman point guard Matt Coleman and junior guard Eric Davis each pitched in 12 points. Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba tallied a double-double for the third straight game, putting up 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Coleman’s strong second half performance helped Texas come back from a 15-point deficit, posting his first double-digit performance in six games. His clutch shots kept Texas in it when Bamba and Roach weren’t scoring, something Texas has been looking for all season long.

It was a chippy night for the Longhorns who saw three of their five starting players foul out by the end of the game, forcing head coach Shaka Smart to turn to his bench in overtime. Texas fought back from a late five-point deficit to tie the game with under ten seconds remaining, only to be undone at the buzzer.

The Longhorns (14-8, 4-5 Big 12) will catch a breather for the remainder of the week until No. 12 Oklahoma (16-5, 6-3 Big 12) comes to Austin for a duel in the Drum. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 3.
