Matt Southall grew up in the small Texas town of Hallettsville, where he spent many hours of his adolescence dreaming about talking sports on the radio.
Matt got his start in radio in San Marcos while earning his degree in Mass Communications at Texas State. He was the color commentator for the men’s basketball for two years, he also called football, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer games during his time as a Bobcat.
He hosts The Local Spotlight M-F 10am-11am, a hyper-local show that primarily focuses on Central-Texas high school sports. He also hosts the Friday Night Spotlight, which previews that night’s high school football games in the area, and includes scoreboard updates throughout the night, and a wrap-up show after the games go final.
Matt married the one beautiful woman who could put up with him in November of 2015, Missy Southall, who teaches math and coaches volleyball and softball at Vandegrift High School. They have two spoiled cats who are getting fatter by the day. He enjoys playing disc golf, rocket league and the occasional pick-up basketball game in his off time.
